Why are english bulldog puppies so expensive?

I don't understand! Other breeds are much less expensive, but you rarely find a bulldog puppy for under a few thousand dollars…are they really hard to breed?
Purebreed English Bulldog pups are very difficult to breed they all have to be delivered by c-section, cause their upper body is so much larger than their hips.

Depends on the breeder, my sister sells papered English Bulldogs puppies for around $400. Both mother and father are show dogs.
I think Golddigger is right about being harder to breed and c-section. I did hear my sister mention that a few times.

golddigger is correct. English Bulldog pups often have to be born by cesarian section, causing the price of the puppies to jump dramatically.

What the others have said might be true. BUT I would keep searching. If you don't want a show dog, they are much cheaper. Many breeders have pups that are pure bred and not show quality, they sell them to good homes. You could even state that on your search, the fact you want a pet, not show quality.

I read one time that English Bulldogs should not even exist because the mothers can't deliver the puppies naturally. They always or almost always have to have a caesarian section because their heads are to wide. So any puppies that always have to be delivered that way would be expensive. Anyway here is some information I found on the dogs.
All pure bread dogs are going to be expensive but you can try http://www.petfinder.com they always have something to offer there.

They all must be delivered by c-section because they are so large. Unfortunatly, we have bred them to be bigger dogs than they would have been naturally. They are also a very expensive breed to maintain because they have an extensive list of health problems.
